Welcome to The Barriga Lab, a multidisciplinary research group at KTH Royal Institute of Technology Stockholm, SciLifeLab, dedicated to Precision Nanomedicine Engineering for Personalised Medicine.
The lab, led by Dr. Hanna Barriga, leverages a multidisciplinary approach, integrating biology, physics, and chemistry, to understand nanoscale structure and dynamics in biological processes. This knowledge is then applied to develop the next generation of engineered nanomedicines.
Precision Nanomedicine Engineering
Decoding Nanoparticle Structure
Understanding the structure of nanoparticles is essential for developing effective nanomedicines. The Barriga Lab uses a variety of techniques, including small angle X-ray and neutron scattering (SAXS / SANS), to characterise the structure of LNPs. This information is then used to optimise the design of LNPs for specific applications.
Innovative Nanoparticle Design
Our expertise in lipid membrane biophysics enables the development of novel LNP formulations that address current limitations in drug delivery. The research group explores the use of different lipids to engineer LNPs with enhanced properties, such as improved stability and drug encapsulation efficiency.
Disease-tailored Drug Delivery
Our ultimate goal is to develop disease-tailored drug delivery systems. By understanding how diseases impact the performance of nanomedicines, the lab aims to design LNPs that are specifically tailored to treat individual patients. This approach has the potential to revolutionise the way diseases are treated, leading to more effective and personalised therapies
